I'm serving champagne and strawberry tarts. Grab a comfortable chair and listen to what Jennifer has to say about life, stories, and inspirational bottles.
MM: Welcome, Jennifer! Congratulations on your new release. I'm so happy you could join us today. Describe a typical writing day. Are you a morning, afternoon, or night-owl writer?
JW: Well, despite my body insisting I wake up at the crack of dawn even during the summer when my kids don’t have to get up for school, I am NOT a morning person. My typical writing day usually consists of getting my to-do list done in the morning—marketing, blog posts and even errands. I usually sit down to write in the late morning and try to get at least 1,000 words on the page before I stop. They’re not always good words, but I can worry about that later. I’m really going for the discipline and the progress. I usually end up reaching that goal in the late afternoon, and then it’s just a question of whether I’m inspired to keep going or if there’s something I have to do—like make dinner—that makes me shut down my computer.
MM: You're correct. It's all about the discipline when it comes to writing. Can you tell us about your current work-in-progress?
JW: My current WIP is part of a series of four books about wealthy, somewhat tortured men, who use their wealth for good and in the process, find their perfect woman. I need to work on a better “elevator pitch,” but right now, that’s what I’ve got. Since Addicted to Love just came out and I’ve got another new release coming in September, I haven’t had a lot of dedicated writing time—most of my time is filled with marketing and promo work, so I’ve been writing in fits and starts. At some point, hopefully soon, that will change.
MM: How exciting, Jennifer! What inspires you when you’re writing?
JW: That depends. I usually get a scene that appears in my head, or a character who starts talking to me and I write that down as soon as I can after it happens. I take my dog on long walks in the morning, and I often find my inspiration then, when my mind empties out. At other times, it’s when I first am drifting off to sleep or when I’m gardening.
MM: I love taking walks, too. It allows my mind to drift. What’s your favorite item on your writing desk?
JW: Ha! I have a laptop, so I travel all over my house and my deck as I get fidgety, so I had to actually go over to my desk and stare at it to answer this question. I think it would be a gift one of my daughters gave me for inspiration—bottles of “Wishes come true,” “Happiness,” and “Friends,” and containers of “Love,” “Time,” and “Dreams.”

“What are we looking at?” She whispered out of the side of her mouth, pursing her lips together and giving him an insane urge to kiss them.
“What?”
“I assumed since we’re standing here you must be looking at something, and I wanted to join in the fun. Or did you not realize we weren’t moving?”
Her nostrils flared and she bit her lip, and Dan realized she was trying not to laugh. Now he really wanted to kiss her, to capture her mouth with his, to make her his own. Before he could act on it, his stomach growled.
“Was that yours or mine?” She looked over at him, eyebrow raised.
His lips twitched. His breath hitched. He couldn’t keep his amusement to himself any longer. It bubbled in his chest and he let it out as he shook his head.
“Okay, while I am older than you, I’m not old enough to be senile. Yet. So yes, I did know we weren’t moving. But thanks for that. And yes, my stomach growled, because I’m hungry. Except I think I need to put eating on hold for a moment, because what I need, more than anything else right now, what I’ve needed all night long in fact, is to kiss you.”

More about the author ~
Jennifer started telling herself stories as a little girl when she couldn’t fall asleep at night. Her favorite stories to write are those with smart, sassy, independent heroines; handsome, strong and slightly vulnerable heroes; and her stories always end with happily ever after.
In the real world, she’s the mother of two amazing daughters and wife of one of the smartest men she knows. When she’s not writing, she loves to laugh with family and friends, is a pro at finding whatever her kids lost in plain sight, and spends way too much time closing doors that should never have been left open. She believes humor is the only way to get through the day and doesn’t share her chocolate.
