Medieval Monday | CURSE OF THE HEALER by Ashley York

Welcome to week three of Medieval Monday and our theme of "First Encounter" between the hero and heroine. Will the couples clash in words or actions? Or does an instant attraction bloom? Take a glimpse into my dear friend, Ashley York's medieval romance, Curse of the Healer.

And if you're following along with mine, hop on over to Ashley's blog here:

Enjoy!

The slight crease between his brows disappeared. She crossed her legs beneath her skirt and attempted to sit up straighter. When she moved to smooth her hair, the knife dropped onto the ground beside her, the blade twinkling like his eyes had. It seemed a fine idea to leave it there.

He closed the distance between them, pushing the dark animal skin behind him, and his eyes darted to her row of mushrooms. “Suffice it to say we have met.”

She cleared her throat, fighting the disorientation that seemed to be intensifying rather than lessening. Somewhere in her brain she knew her reaction to this man should be different. But any other reaction would be wrong. This was what her reaction should be! She wanted to know this man. Longed to know this man. “I am called Aednat.”

“Little fire.” The man nodded, a slow thought-filled gesture. “As I said, we have met.”

It surprised her to realize that aside from feeling intrigued, she also felt… safe. Some inner voice told her this man was not a threat. And he was so very handsome. With a long, straight nose and a strong chin. She did not wish to leave before she knew everything there was to know about him. Such an interesting warrior.

Blurb from CURSE OF THE HEALER ~

After the death of Brian Boru in 1014, a legend arose of a healer so great she could raise a man from the dead, with a power so strong it could make any warrior the next high king of Éire...and to steal it away from her, he need only possess her.

Fated to be a healer…

Aednat has spent her entire life training to be the great healer, knowing she must remain alone. When she meets Diarmuid, the intense attraction she feels toward him shakes her resolve to believe in such a legend. If she gives in to the passion he ignites in her, can she settle for being less?

Destined to be his…

Diarmuid of Clonascra is renowned for his bravery in battle. Only one thing daunts him: the prospect of taking a wife. The safest course would be to keep his distance from Aednat, the bold, headstrong healer who's far too tempting for his peace of mind. But his overking orders him to protect her from a group of craven warriors intent on kidnapping her to steal her power. What starts as duty for Diarmuid quickly transforms into something more. Aednat's power might be at risk, but so is his closed-off heart.
