Long and Short Reviews Weekly Blog Challenge | Bonny Scotland

Welcome back to the Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge hosted by the fab people at Long and Short Reviews! This week's topic: A book/movie/TV show that influenced my life.

An easy one for me. The book, Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. How did it influence my life? The story swept me away on an epic adventure in search of my roots--my genealogy. In addition, I fell in love with bonny Scotland. I knew a few of my ancestors came from Scotland, Wales, and Ireland, but I discovered so much more while doing my research.

I also yearned to explore the Highlands, lochs, and standing stones. Eventually, I took my first trip (a month long adventure) in June of 2000. The trip changed my life. I've mentioned this before on blogs and interviews how this trip inspired my first book series the Order of the Dragon Knights, and I became a published author 14 years later.

I first read Outlander in late 1992. In addition, I became fascinated with herbs and planted my first herb and vegetable garden in the summer of 1994. Since then, I've kept a garden in all the places I've lived. The photo below (my signed copy) is the original cover for the book. I happen to love it much better than the revised version.
