Welcome to Medieval Monday in Mary's Tavern, and the month of December!
Please, someone pinch me! I can't believe we're in the last month of 2023! For the season, I thought to present an ancient word celebrating this joyous month. I'm certain some of my medieval author friends might know the meaning of this word, so let's get started...
Mummer ~ An actor of short entertainments, often of traditional style and in disguise or wearing a mask. Their performances might be mute or unscripted, though court mumming was the more formal entertainment. Mummers would go about merrymaking in disguise during festivals as well.
In this festive season, may you go forth in joyous reveling!
