Medieval Monday | NIGHT OF THE OWL by Judith Sterling

Welcome to Medieval Monday! It's week 9 of our them of "Celebrations." Only a few more weeks left, my friends. And speaking of friends, my guest author is a dear one! Judith Sterling is sharing a snippet from her beautiful medieval romance, Night of the Owl.

If you've been following along with mine, hop on over to Judith's blog here when you're finished.

Enjoy!

Snippet from Night of the Owl

Not my concern, Hugh thought.

But the idea gnawed at him and continued to do so even when he and his family retired to the solar after supper. Sipping spiced wine, he and Robert lounged in cushioned, high-backed chairs before the lifeless hearth. Their mother and Lady Constance engaged in a spirited game of Fox and Geese at a table beneath the open window.

“What ails you, Brother?” Robert’s penetrating gaze sparkled with barely contained intensity.

Hugh sighed inside. “Not a thing.” He lifted his cup and took a swig. Cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, and nutmeg danced upon his tongue.

“I couldn’t help but notice…”

“What?”

“Your gaze sought Lady Ardyth quite a bit this evening.”

“Not overmuch. Anyway, what does it matter? Her gaze was fixed on Ranulf.”

Robert’s dimples appeared. “Was it? And how would you know that if you weren’t watching—”

“Point taken.” Hugh took another sip of wine.

Backcover blurb from Night of the Owl

PhD student Ardyth Nightshade has renounced men and pursues her twentieth-century career with single-minded focus. When fate whisks her to medieval England, she meets her match in a man whose passions mirror her own. Can she sacrifice ambition for a love she never sought?

Hugh, Lord Seacrest confounds all who know him. He refuses to marry without a meeting of minds and hearts, and no lady has even approached his ideal…until Ardyth. But she's an odd one, with unique skills, shocking habits, and total conviction she needs no man. She also harbors secrets, and in the midst of rumors, plots, and murder, trust is fragile.

A woman outside of her time. A man ahead of his. They must take a leap of faith to forge a bond that will shape history.
